PATTER OF TINY FEET IN THE WAPPAT HOUSEHOLD

Listeners will recall that Susan and Frank Wappat are devastated having had to have their pet Bengal Cat Kouros put to sleep following a long illness. Both Susan and Frank Wappat are great cat lovers, and Kouros was a particular favourite with the BBC listeners.
This is an extract from Frank’s due to be released biography – on his pets:

“The first addition to our family was a beautiful seal point Siamese cat called Chinky. He was faithful, and

loving, and I adored him. One day I arrived home to shrieks from the lounge. Lying on the floor were two tails all that remained of our pet gerbils - food was scarce for Chinky too!  He shared some of the bleakest and the happiest days of our lives and he was with us until we moved to Seaton Delaval where despite old age and obvious weakness, he still managed to come and meet me from work each day. I cried buckets when he died. I was inconsolable in my grief. I’ve always loved cats and have had my share since losing him. Each one has had its individual qualities but I tried never to get so close as I had with Chinky. My Abysinian ‘Dash’ was so timid, he closed his eyes to avoid seeing people - I’m sure he believed that if he couldn’t see them, he was safe, because they couldn’t see him. At the time of writing this book I have Kouros, a ‘Bengal Toy leopard’ cat. He’s a stunning cat with a spotted ‘pelt’ – but he’s my friend spending his days with me in the Studio and his evenings asleep by my side, in bed.

Following Kouros’ death, Frank said “it was like someone switched the light off in my home here in Eastgate, Weardale. It’s was like the house missed him as much as we do”

Now after 6 months, the patter of tiny feet are once again heard around the Wappat household. Frank and Susan now have two beautiful Egyptian Mau Kittens. - Pedigree names Geniemau Omar (Now Frankie) and Geniemau Usaamah  (Now Bobby).  They are real characters, Bobby is head strong and even challenges back when he is being told off!, whilst Frankie is the smaller, quieter one. As we report this, Frank is poorly but they are just the tonic to get him back on the road to recovery, sleeping by his side in bed.

When we met Jean and Peter Lamb, we were instantly friends like we had known each other for years. We knew that any kittens coming from such a loving couple, would be well cared for and socialised, and we were right.
